Studies In Perfectionism
This volume contains the most important parts of Dr. Warfields's 1000 page study on perfectionism. Perfectionism is not a local phenomenon even when confined to professedly Christian circles, as it is held by Roman Catholics, Arminians, Wesleyans and such mystical sects as the Quackers and Quietists. it is manifested particularly within the Keswick movement and the Victorious Life Movement. Dr. Warfield's ever-present criticism of perfectionism is with its inadequate notion of sin. Perfectionism is impossible, he maintains, in the presence of a profound sense of sin. It apparently ignores the fact that sin consists of any lack of conformity unto the law of God, as well as transgression of the law of God, as well as transgression of that law. Although these articles were written some seventy years ago in the closing years Dr. Warfield's life, they have lost little, if any, of their value for those who would know either the history of perfectionism or its present significance.
