Preaching : A Kind of Folly
Preaching is central to the Church's life; it is the heart of Christian theology. However, until the preacher himself is involved in what he is saying, he is unlikely to persuade others : "before a man can learn to preach he must first learn to believe in preaching." Professor Pitt-Watson bridges the gap between the academic theologian and the preacher. He isolates and analyzes the essential element in preaching. Christian preaching, he says, must be Biblical and theological. It must appeal to the whole person - intellect, will, and emotions. Here he gives specific, practical guidlines for achieving this kind of preaching, concluding with an analysis and commentary on a number of his own sermon outlines.
