Turnabout: New Help for the Woman Alcoholic
When Turnabout was first published in 1978, to discuss the woman alcoholic separately and to see that her needs in recovery differed significantly from those of the male alcoholic were totally new concepts. Even more startling was the suggestion that the woman alcoholic should have a self-help program just for her. Prior this, most professionals believed that the program of Alcoholics Anonymous was suited to all alcoholics, male and female. Should an alcoholic declare that he or she couldn't get sober with AA, it was always concluded that the problem lay with the alcoholic, not with the program.
