The Church Stands Corrected
The church at Corinth was no different from the church at Denver, Cleveland, Edgefield, Toronto, or Boone's Creek. Those early believers were confronted by problems of conduct just as we are today. The Corinthians congregation was surrounded by a polluted and idolatrous environment, and we are faced by similar adegradation in our society. [ 1st paragraph ]
The local church, recognizing that it is part of the Body of Christ - a fellowship of believers stationed in the world and yet called out from the world - should bear consistent witness to the Lord Jesus, its living Head. The conduct of an assembly, as well as the individual believer, it is to correspond to His life. But if conduct is shaped by worldly wisdom, as was the case in Corinth, fleshly indulgence soon manifests itself in various ways. Fellowship with God is hampered, and its effectiveness is limited because of sin.
May it please the Lord to use our study of 1 Corinthians in the correction of wrong practices and the strengthening of Christian conduct, thus purifying His church. [ last paragraph ]
