In this brief collection of poems and essays, the renowned professor of linguistics at the University of Michigan and member of the Board of the Wycliffe Bible Translators addresses himself to the problems facing college students of today.
Dr. Pike sees the vocation of today's youth as being to “stir, change, create.'' This ideal requires the re-evaluation of the status quo and demands that the student realize that the world in which he is called upon to live and make his mark is itself changing.
Particularly interesting are two of the poems that use the device of "pitch markings," a lingual-mechanical innovation adapted by Pike, requiring that certain words be read at a certain voice pitch for differentiation.
