Struggle and Fulfillment: The Inner Dynamics of Religion and Morality
In each human being there are rival stances which pervade the personality. Some, such as trust, self-acceptance, and concern, are life-affirming. Others, such as distrust, self-rejection, and self-preoccupation, are destructive. Life is a struggle between these rivals in which the basic issue is, "Which will predominate?" This struggle has been described in different ways by religion tradition, moral philosophy, and depth psychology.
