Let's Quit Kidding Ourselves About Missions
How long has it been since you read a book written by a missionary? That's probably the reason you should read this one. Missionaries see world missions differently from the way most of us see it, and we need at least to evaluate the situation from their perspective. Jim Weber is not only a veteran of over twenty-five years on the field, but he also has a successful track record that qualifies him a hearing. He is no mystical idealist. He is a practical realist, and he communicates as one whether speaking or writing. This book needs to be read by pastors, church members, young people, and certainly anyone planning to go to the mission field. Personally, I am planning to get one for every member of our church missionary board, for Jim has courageously shed light on some subjects that are very obscure to many in the church. I don’t know of another book quite like it. Frankly, I didn’t know Jim had such a sense of humor as comes through in his writing. That is particularly unusual in view of the fact that the subject is quite heavy-reaching the over 3 billion souls on planet earth who do not know Jesus Christ. Jim's sense of humor helps somewhat to soften the confrontation approach he gives to a problem we don't often like to face-what we have been calling “missions” is not true New Testament missions, for we have been kidding ourselves. Any Christian will benefit from reading this book.
