Quest For Holiness
Here is a book which will prove encouraging to many a so-called "ordinary Christian."
To those who are dismayed and discouraged by the impression that the heights of holiness can be reached only by the seemingly super-human efforts recorded in the lives of many saints—heroic penances, exhausting labors, etc.—this book stresses the one thing necessary: joyful performance of God's will.
Optimism and joy and the keynotes stuck by Fr. Ceresi, who leans heavily on the spirituality of St. Francis De Sales. "Peace and joy are the fundamental characteristics of a Christian," he asserts—and indeed the distinguishing marks of a Christian. Nor is this peace and joy only for the extra-ordinary, "otherworldly" saints: "There is no one more than a man than I am," said St. Francis, "and nothing human is alien to me." There is no form of the spiritual life, no external affairs or occupation, no legitimate recreation that cannot be a step towards sanctity.
